Just two weeks after announcing that foreign tourists would need permits to visit its border regions, Kazakhstan has scrapped the requirement.
In July, the country’s government announced that foreign tourists would require permits to visit border areas of the country, which included a number of popular tourist sites. On Thursday, the plan was scrapped by the Ministry of Investment and Development, who announced that there would be 'no need for any special permits or visas' border areas, including Big Almaty Lake, Charyn Canyon and Shymbulak ski resort.
