Debt-ridden Indian airline Spicejet is again in the news after passengers accused the carrier of faking a technical fault to avoid having to honour tickets on a loss-making flight from Kolkata to Bagdogra. Passengers were held on board the flight at the gate for four hours due to an alleged technical fault, but the boarding steps were never removed and transfer coaches were kept waiting in readiness beside the aircraft. Eventually the flight was cancelled, officially because of bad weather, though several other airlines flew to the same destination at the same time without problems.
