The Bloody Mary festival, a touring meetup for lovers of the tomato juice-based cocktail, is sure to liven up weekend brunch activities when it comes to Park Slope banquet hall the Grand Prospect Hall this Sunday.

After crowning victorious libations in a whole host of US cities including San Francisco, Denver and New Orleans, event organisers are returning to Brooklyn for the fourth annual festival, which seeks to find the borough’s quintessential brunch beverage.

As guests enjoy music provided by jazz band Sabot & The Afro-Latineers, they will indulge in a three-hour tasting test as bartenders from Gowanus, Crown Heights, Cobble Hill and Park Slope battle it out. Much loved watering holes and drinking institutions including Iron Station, Catfish, Insa and Lobster Joint will be sending forward their entries to not only a thirsty crowd, but three professional judges too.

Bear in mind that this isn’t your regular recipe list of tomato juice, lemon, celery and vodka. These variations will incorporate random additions involving everything from maple syrup and beef jerky to seaweed, garlic and jalapenos.

To line the stomach and provide some much needed soakage, Brooklyn’s most popular eateries will have popup stands offering brunch favorites like bagels, burgers and bacon. A Sunday Funday, indeed.
