How far would you go for the perfect photo of New York City? Until now, the best view of Manhattan was arguably from across the water in Brooklyn or New Jersey. While rooftop bars have become ten-a-penny, this new location offers an unrivalled look at the Big Apple – without the need to hop on a subway.
Aptly named ‘The Heights’, the recently opened bar and eatery is situated on top of the Arlo Hotel in NoMad. Its USP? A transparent glass floor, which allows you to have a birds eye view of Manhattan from 31 floors up... right under your feet. The Heights was envisioned by concept and design firm AvroKo. Between the glass-bottomed floor, which is thicker than concrete, and the entirely glass railings which enclose the area; the space feels as if it is suspended among the madness of Midtown Manhattan. And with little physical barriers to distract you, what better way to view the surrounding buildings such as the Empire State?
While a bar like this is a no-brainer for sunny apres-work cocktail hours or a lazy Saturday lunch, why not grab your towel and mat and ease yourself out of bed for a 7am yoga session. Weekday classes, unsurprisingly, fill up fast so ensure you book a spot to avoid disappointment. If workouts at such an insufferable hour don’t appeal to you, the kitchen is open for lunch and dinner serving snacks and salads imagined by executive chef Dale Talde. Wash them down with cocktails named after New York City and Brooklyn ‘Heights’ neighborhoods, like the Jackson Heights rosemary-infused gin or the Dyker Heights rye whiskey and prosecco blend.

If you want to splash the cash on your cocktail, go for the Peeping Tom. For $24, you will get a fruity rum and chartreuse concoction for two people, that comes complete with a set of binoculars. Now that’s what you call drinks with a view.
