Dozens of snakes have entered flooded homes in the city, leading to a spate of emergency calls from householders asking for the reptiles to be removed. Most of the snakes are constrictors, which are not dangerous to humans, but several homes have been invaded by deadly cobras. Although a few snakes have been killed by frightened residents, the reptiles hold a special place in Indian mythology and dozens of snakes have been rescued by animal handlers.
