New rules in Sacramento mean that loud and sleepy people can be removed from public transit – but not those who smell.
Transportation officials in the California capital approved new rules that will allow them to require people to get off the bus or light rail if they are making loud noises or sleeping at the end of the line will, reports Eyewitness Local.
Another proposal to ban noxious odours and anyone causing them did not pass.
The rules will not allow people to play sound equipment that other people can hear, and everyone must wear clothes that cover above and below the waist as well as shoes.
Some people feel that the rules unfairly target homeless people and the rule banning unreasonable smells did not move forward.
Sacramento Regional Transit District officials said they are not targeting the homeless, but are trying to make using transit more attractive to people to encourage greater use, according to the Sacramento Bee.
