A new center for extreme tourism has been officially inaugurated, opening its doors at the foot of Nicaragua’s tallest volcano, San Cristobal.

The site was constructed with the financial  assistance of the European Union, and includes an inn, a visitors center, a dining hall, and a network of trails to climb the volcano, which towers above the surrounding land at 1745 meters. The project came to fruition thanks to the effort of over 350 people from local communities who aimed to promote development on the Route of Colonial Cities and Volcanoes. The route includes six provinces along the Pacific coast and contains more than ten volcanic structures and some of Central America’s oldest cities.
