Both the UK and US governments have upgraded their travel warnings for Burundi. The entire country is now subjected to advisories, which call for either a ban on all travel or all but essential travel.

Transiting through Bujumbura International Airport, however, is still considered safe. The turmoil leading to these new warnings stems from the political instability and violence since President Nkrunziza was inaugurated for his controversial third term in August 2015. Read more: www.gov.uk
