Tourists visiting Japan will be able to sign up for travel insurance online after arriving in the country, under a new insurance scheme.
Under the new system, developed by the Japan Tourism Authority in association with a private insurance company, visitors will be able to apply for the insurance online even after entering Japan, with premiums depending on length of stay – insurance for a six-day stay, for example, would cost around ¥3000 (US$25). The 24-hour call centre supporting the service will be staffed with people who can speak English, Chinese and Korean. According to a Japan Tourism Authority survey, about 30% of people visiting Japan do not have insurance. The insurance will be available from February 2016. Read more: the-japan-news.com
