Emergency workers have finally cleared the road linking Nepal and the land port of Zhangmu in Tibet following the earthquakes in April and May this year.

The border crossing is a major route for trade between Nepal and its northern neighbour, but the earthquake blocked key transport links, leaving the country dependent on imports from India via border crossings in the Terai. These southern routes are now affected by India’s trade blockade, and it is hoped that the resumed flow of goods from China will help ease some of the shortages in Nepal.
