Nepal Airlines, the national carrier of Nepal, is flying with empty seats on its international routes to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur to save fuel because of the ongoing blockade across the India-Nepal border.

Fuel supplies are dwindling and up to 50 passengers are being offloaded from each flight to reduce fuel consumption. The airline is said to be making a loss of US$10,000 per flight by flying below full capacity. Rival carrier China Southern Airlines recently suspended its flights to Kathmandu because of concerns about the fuel supply in the country. Read more:
