Millions of trade union members in India have gone on strike to protest against the government’s economic policy, causing massive disruption across the country.
Bengal and Kolkata have been particularly badly affected by the industrial action, which has affected everything from Delhi’s taxis and autorickshaws to high street banks in Kolkata. Millions of shops and businesses are closed and no public transport is operating in the most seriously affected areas.
