The municipal authorities in Mumbai have issued a ban on the construction of new flats that can only be sold to vegetarians. Builders in India often restrict ownership of their buildings to members of specific castes, followers of specific religions or people who eat specific diets, but the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has voted to halt the construction of new residential buildings if the owners planned to discriminate against buyers on the grounds of caste, religion or food preferences.
