The costumed characters usually found in Times Square are migrating across the city and taking their aggressive panhandling tactics with them.
Hot spots include the Battery, the Statue of Liberty, Coney Island and Ellis Island. A recent confrontation has seen a fight break out between Minnie Mouse and the Statue of Liberty over a ‘prime piece of real estate’. City Councilman Mark Treyger has said ‘The costumed characters are getting very aggressive. If a parent and child ask for a photograph with one of the characters, the other characters jump into the picture and demand money from the parents.’ City Hall is taking measures to crack down on these hostile hustlers which include the topless painted-ladies that have come under media attention in recent weeks.
