The oldest carnival celebrations in Mexico begin tomorrow, Thursday, in the coastal city of Mazatlán.

The festivities’ modern incarnation dates back to 1898 and as well as being the oldest are also one of the biggest in the country. Events include the crowning of the carnival king and queen, live music at venues across the city, food stalls to keep energy levels up and a massive parade along the seafront promenade followed by a fireworks show out on the water.
