A new ordinance past this week is being credited with saving Christmas in Honolulu.
The ordinance allows live Christmas trees to be on display in public spaces. Previously, there was a fire regulation banning live trees in certain public areas for safety reasons. The Honolulu Fire Department announced that it would enforce the regulation. After working with the HFD, the city council came up with a compromise that allowed live trees in public spaces like hotel lobbies, as long as the building is equipped with a sprinkler system.
