Following the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris on 13 November, the city of Lyon cancelled its famous four-day Festival of Lights. Instead, the event was instead turned into a tribute to the 130 people who died in the attacks.

The event, which was scheduled to begin on 5 December and to draw in three million visitors, was cancelled by Lyon mayor Gerard Collomb due to security reasons as the country remains in a three-month state of emergency.

People were instead asked to take part in the tribute on 8 December by lighting candles in their windows, which is often done as part of the festival.

One of the displays remained on the Saone River, projecting art onto buildings along with the first names of the victims.
