A total of seven people have now died and 64 have been hospitalised in an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in New York City.

Officials have said the outbreak is contained to an area in the South Bronx where the cooling systems of several buildings, including the Concourse Plaza shopping center near the Yankee Stadium and the Opera House Hotel have tested positive for the legionella bacteria. City officials have confirmed that a program of ‘comprehensive cleaning and remediation of infected sites’ is being carried out and that the drinking supply, fountains and pools in New York are safe.
