The US House Natural Resources Committee has voted on a resolution that would allow ‘hand-propelled’ vessels in hundreds of miles of streams and rivers inside Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Boats are currently allowed on many lakes and some rivers, but access is restricted in more isolated areas of the parks. The longstanding restriction against kayaks and rafts was supported by conservationists and anglers, who say it preserved the solitude of those areas. The bill will now go to a full House vote.
