
The biennial Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival is on this weekend showcasing the culture of the Aboriginal people of Cape York peninsula through song, dance ceremony and performance. It is held just outside Laura which is 330km north of Cairns in far north Queensland on the site of a traditional Bora meeting place, nestled amongst some of the oldest and most spectacular rock art in the world. The rock art here was recently awarded Queensland Icon status by the National Trust in recognition of its significance to the environmental and cultural landscape. Read more: lauradancefestival.com
