The bat is not one of the world’s most beloved mammals thanks to popular lore painting them as mysterious and dangerous creatures, but it certainly is an important one in many ecosystems around the world.
Established in 2011 by RELCOM, La Red Latinoamericana para la conservación de los Murciélagos [Latin American Network for Bat Conservation], 1 October is Latin American Bat Day and the month of October is the official Month of the Bat. The occasion is marked by educational events across the region, including public talks, school presentations, and scholarly congresses. Check local calendars for details.
