Crew members re-creating the 1947 Kon Tiki voyage between South America and Polynesia have been rescued at sea after their two balsa rafts were swept up in strong currents off the coast of Chile.

The Kon Tiki 1 and 2 vessels set sail from Easter Island toward Valparaíso, but ended up 994 miles west of Puerto Montt in southern Chile.
