A firm in China has unveiled the world’s first commercial jetpack, the Martin Jetpack, at a conference in Shenzhen.
The original design has been in the works since 2005 by New Zealand-based Martin Jetpack Company. In 2014, Chinese firm Kuang-Chi Science came on board, introducing a lighter material for the jetpack and catching the eye of Chinese investors. The pack, which allows single-man flight powered by fans rather than rockets, is expected to be in use by emergency services in 2016 and available for wider purchase in 2017.
