New ‘green economy’ laws just passed in Italy mean that the country will be clamping down on littering.

Smokers can now be fined up to €300 for discarding their cigarette butts on the floor, and those who spit chewing gum onto the streets or discard their coffee receipts can be fined anything from €30 to €150. For their part, Italy’s councils will have to make sure that their streets and parks are equipped with enough ashtrays and bins. Read more: thelocal.it
