An Italian family on holiday in Sardinia with their 20-month-old daughter were shocked when they were charged €16 by a restaurant for dirtying the tablecloth and napkins.

The owner of the Baja Sardinia restaurant on the glamorous Costa Smeralda defended his actions saying, ‘It wasn't just sauce on the table cloth – there was traces of pen too,’ but the family took their case to a number of consumer rights groups, claiming: ‘The waiter brought us those pens!’ Read more: thelocal.it
