On Thursday, a Spicejet airplane in the Indian state of Gujarat collided with a buffalo on the runway, causing severe damage to the aircraft. There were no injuries to passengers, but the plane was immediately taken out of service. The accident has highlighted the growing risk to aviation posed by stray animals in India, where the long grass growing around runways is sometimes exploited by peasant farmers.
