India’s Minister for Tourism, Culture & Civil Aviation has confirmed that the country’s E-visa scheme will be rolled out to citizens of 150 countries from March 2016.

The trial scheme, which covered 76 countries, has already been used by 150,000 travellers. Under the scheme, travellers must apply for an E-visa online before travel, and the visa will then be stamped into their passports on arrival at one of nine designated airports. This marks a radical simplification of the process of applying for an Indian visa, which used to involve reams of paperwork and multiple visits to visa-processing centres.
