
The Maltese authorities have announced plans for the restoration of Valletta’s iconic Triton Fountain, which is located just outside the newly renovated City Gate. The €500,000 restoration will involve completely dismantling the fountain, repairing the three bronze triton statues, cleansing the travertine cladding and adding a new water filtration system to sort out the fountain’s notoriously murky green water. The work will start this summer and is expected to take two years, meaning the restored fountain should be ready for 2018 when Valletta becomes European Capital of Culture. Read more: timesofmalta.com
