Iceland’s Imagine Peace Tower will be illuminated on Friday to celebrate what would have been John Lennon’s 75th birthday.
The tower, an outdoor artwork by Yoko Ono, opened in 2007 on Viðey island, just north of Reykjavík. The evening will also include performances by a band and choir, tours and workshops, as well as an art exhibition by Kyoko Ono, Yoko’s daughter. Ferries from Reykjavík to the island on Friday will be free, as they’re being paid for by Yoko Ono. The tower will be illuminated from 9 October to 8 December, the anniversary of Lennon’s death.
