Iceland’s unusually cold summer is benefitting its whales. Average temperatures in July have been below 9°c, with forecasts promising more cool weather.
Conditions mean there is more food for the giant mammals, and whale-watching companies around Akureyri have revealed that whale numbers are unusually high, with more animals heading close to shore. One tour guide said his tours had been spotting between two and twelve humpback whales on every trip since May. Read more: Icenews.is
