The storm ripped off roofs, spoiled drinking water, closed airports and caused major flooding across the area. Relief efforts began on Sunday, aided by the U.S. Coast Guard and the British Navy, and search continues for the missing cargo ship El Faro, a vessel with 33 crew members that sailed into the storm’s path. Hurricane Joaquin caused record flooding in South Carolina over the weekend, particularly in Charleston and Columbia, and passed over Bermuda sunday evening, causing significant storm swells.
