The head of the mountaineering association of Nepal has called for mountaineers to remove the vast volumes of human waste that are building up on the slopes of Mount Everest. Every season, some 700 climbers and support staff set up camp on the lower slopes of Everest and stay for several months, using improvised latrines. The government’s mountaineering department is now mulling over plans to require climbers to take away their bodily waste when they leave, as well as carrying out rubbish. Read more: theguardian.com
