Construction is about to start on a huge artificial reef - the largest in the western hemisphere - to be located off Florida’s Gulf Coast. Around 18,000 tons of concrete will be dumped in the ocean to form the reef (actually a collection of 36 individual reefs), which aim to replace reefs that have been lost to hurricanes and changing ocean currents.
