Since Caravaggio’s ‘Nativity with St Francis and St Lawrence’ was stolen from Palermo’s Oratorio di San Lorenzo in 1969, an enlarged photograph of the original has hung in its place, but on Saturday an accurate reproduction will be unveiled by Italian president Sergio Mattarella.

The reproduction was created by a team of hi-tech art restorers led by British artist Adam Lowe, who used detailed digital scans of existing photographs of the artwork to make an accurate reproduction of the original. Read more: theguardian.com
