Heavy monsoon rains are causing travel problems across Mumbai as trains are cancelled and bus services are disrupted by traffic jams.

Flights into Mumbai have also been delayed because of difficult landing conditions and flooding has been reported from many districts of the city. Monsoon flooding is an annual problem in most of India’s cities, many of which still rely on drainage systems built in the colonial era when the population was a fraction of its current size.
