Half of the tourist boats in service at Vietnam’s Halong Bay may be forced to suspend operations next month for failing to meet standards for waste treatment.
The local government has announced that boats not having the required technology to separate oily waste will be banned. Currently only 290 of the 530 boats that ply the popular bay have the necessary equipment, the effectiveness of which has been questioned by boat owners.
