Ahead of the Greek elections on 25 January, the leftist Syriza coalition, which is leading in the polls, has addressed tourism issues during the election campaign. The party has proposed to limit all-inclusive resort packages as they are keeping tourists away from local businesses. It has also announced plans to reopen agreed privatisation deals that may include selling public land to resort developers and privatising 14 small airports. The ruling New Democracy party has proposed an  increase in value-added tax on hotel accommodation from 6.5% to 13% as a temporary measure if it gets re-elected. Read more:
