Indian Oil has announced that it will resume oil shipments across the border to Nepal for the first time in five months, as protesters from the Madhesi community end their blockade of the border.

Barricades are already coming down at Raxaul-Birgunj, the busiest crossing point between India and Nepal. Tankers crossing into Nepal at Birgunj account for 70% of Nepal’s fuel supplies, and an end to the blockade will come as welcome news to the people of Nepal, who are struggling with shortages of everything from cooking fuel to basic cooking ingredients. The protesters have vowed to continue their fight to change the new constitution of Nepal, but via other means.
