Deena Herr was much like any other tourist, travelling around East Africa after a stint volunteering in Rwanda – that is, until a friend suggested she played something on guitar while at a local bar in Kampala, Uganda.
She soon had a local manager and produced a music video in which she sung in Luganda, the local language. Her effort was celebrated both on the radio and in the local culture, and she now has pop star status in the African country. She said she wants to continue singing in African languages to illustrate how beautiful it would be if more people expressed themselves in their indigenous tongue. Read more: eturbonews.com
