Four French hikers were dumped into a river when a 65m-suspension bridge on the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk in the Te Urewera National Park collapsed.
One of the hikers was filming the walk, capturing the dramatic moment the cable snapped. None of the hikers was seriously injured from the 8.5m fall into the river below.
New Zealand’s Department of Conservation deputy director general operations Mike Slater said laboratory analysis revealed manufacturing defects in a section of the high-tensile chain used on the bridge. Read more: cnn.com
