Thursday marks the beginning of new taxi fare regulations that have long been on the books in Shanghai.
In downtown districts the flag-down fare has increased dramatically from 1 yuan to 14 yuan and across the board passengers will see a rise in fares per kilometre. Transport officials in Shanghai reported that any extra money made from the fare increases will be kept by the drivers. The Shanghai Daily reports that these changes were voted in with a majority vote from representatives of the public with 22 out of 24 in favour of the increases. Read more: shanghaiist.com
