
The Presidio, the massive park lying to the south of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, is normally the place to enjoy a stroll with a view, visit a museum or catch an outdoor Shakespearean play. But yesterday, a lake in the park was the scene of the killing of thousands of fish as part of a plan to return it and the surrounding area back to its pre-European state. To achieve this the Presidio Trust decided to remove non-native fish, and then once the water is clear of fish and the poison has naturally dissipated, native species will be reintroduced.
