Now, finally, though, the first stretch of California’s high speed railway has been announced. The line will run from San Jose, in Silicon Valley, to Bakersfield, in the Central Valley, and should be whizzing passengers along at over 200mph within a decade. Eventually the railway will connect San Francisco with Los Angeles and those backing the scheme hope that completion of this first section will encourage investors and politicians to support the entire route.
