An orangutan has been shot and killed at Duisburg Zoo in western Germany after it escaped from its enclosure late on Monday evening.
A city spokesperson said that staff had been 'deeply affected' by the animal's death, but that 'protection of human life had to come first'. A second orangutan had escaped at the same time, but was tranquilised and returned to its enclosure. Read more: thelocal.de
