Ecuador's capital city of Quito is enveloped in smoke as forest fires rage around the metro area. The flames are creeping close to residential areas and people in the worst affected areas are prepared for evacuation in case flames continue to spread.

Ten people have been arrested for allegedly setting the fires and the government is asking people to denounce firebugs, offering a $50,000 reward for information that may lead to their capture. President Rafael Correa has is looking to surrounding countries for support in extinguishing the 17 fires, including Venezuela, who has promised to send helicopters. Read more: bbc.com
