
A plan to turn Eatonville, Florida, the oldest black town in America, into a shopping destination for the uber rich was voted down by the town council on Tuesday. The proposal - called the World Transportation Exchange and costing around $200 to construct - would have engulfed 20% of the town, providing a shopping center where items such as yachts, helicopters, private jets and luxury cars would be on display. Eatonville became the first incorporated African American town in America in 1887, and today remains 85% black. Read more: reuters.com
