A fossil found in a cliff face next to a Welsh golf club has been confirmed as a new species.
The dog-sized dinosaur has been named Dracoraptor hanigani, which means ‘dragon robber’. The dinosaur is the first from the Jurassic period to be found in Wales, and is one of the most complete sets of dinosaur remains from the period anywhere in the world. Paleontologist Steven Vidovic described the creature as “an inquisitive, nippy little animal the size of a German shepherd dog”. The skeleton is now on display at the National Museum in Cardiff.
