Over in the Great Smoky Mountains of east Tennessee, things are about to speed up a little.
On Friday Dolly Parton herself unveiled plans for a new ride at her Dollywood theme park: the fastest wooden roller coaster in world. Named the Lightning Rod, the ride is inspired by the ‘hot rod’ cars of Dolly’s youth, and feature speeds of up to 73 mph, a 165ft drop and 12 significant ‘air time’ moments. The coaster will also be the world’s first wood launched coaster, shooting its riders off on the ride with 1500 hp of acceleration. The ride is expected to open to the public in March 2016 and at a cost of $22 million will be the largest investment in a single attraction made by Dollywood. Read more: yahoo.com
