A marble head of one of the two sphinxes which are guarding the entrance to the Amphipolis tomb in northern Greece has been unearthed in the third chamber. It is undamaged apart from minimal breakage on the nose. The recently discovered mosaic floor in the second chamber is now entirely revealed, and the third character, a red-haired woman, has been identified as the goddess Persephone. The Greek Ministry of Culture has announced that the mosaic depicts the mythological abduction of Persephone by Pluto (lord of the underworld). Read more: news.gtp.gr and news.gtp.gr
