A farmer in Devon, in southwest England, has been forced to kill more than half his herd of Heck cows after the rare breed repeatedly attacked farm staff. Heck cows were created in Germany in the 1920s after a commission from the Nazi party, who wanted to breed a muscular cow based on the auroch, an extinct species wild bull, for propaganda value. Farmer Derek Gow ended up slaughtering the aggressive cows, leaving only the calmer animals - the rest have been turned into sausages. The few Heck cows that survive elsewhere in the world are mostly in wildlife parks. Read more: independent.co.uk
